VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE CRIME BOOKS OF 2013

You participated in such great numbers last year that I decided to do it again. I want to know what books you most enjoyed in 2013. These will be THE HOUSE OF CRIME & MYSTERY'S 2013 READERS'S CHOICE AWARDS (2nd Edition). (You can still check out the 2012 winners).

I've written down a list of some of my favourites of the year, to help start you out, in each category, but you're under no obligation to pick one of these titles --just add your own favourites. To be eligible, the books need to have been published between November 1st, 2012 and November 30th, 2013 (if you're not sure, I'll verify the pub dates).

This year I've added 4 categories (short-fiction, non-fiction, French original, and French translation). You don't need to vote in every category; then e-mail me your selections (one pick per category, 10 answers max in total--you can do it quickly by just writing the authors's last names or part of the titles in your message or just copy/paste)at housecrimyst@gmail.com or in the comment space below this post, and you'll be entered automatically for a chance to win a bundle of books (some were published in 2013, others are advance reader's copies of 2014 titles). Also, every writer, agent, publicist, and publisher who would like to add a book or two to the bundle, you are welcome to send them to me (my mailing address can be found in the OFFICE DESK/INFO KIT page on this site). My goal is to give 5 books to one winner, and 2 books to four more winners. Additional books will be given away every week, through January, if I have any left.

Voting closes on January 5th at midnight (Montréal time). Everyone over 18 years of age can participate --from any country (on this planet). Don't forget to give me your full name and postal address. Results will be posted on Saturday January 11th, and then I'll contact the winners of the giveaways before announcing them. After that, I'll post my own personal list of favourite crime books for 2013.

Help authors around the world by voting and passing the word around so more votes can come in. Let's beat last year's tally of 632 ballots filled. Thank you in advance for participating.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS, whatever you celebrate, as long as it involves peace, kindness, and love! À bientôt, in 2014.

  1. How about Andrez Bergen's Who is Killing the Great Capes of Heropa and the Another Sky Press anthology The Tobacco-Stained Sky?

  2. I didn't put Andrez's novel on the list because it's not available here in Canada. As for the anthology, I hadn't heard about it. But you can certainly vote for both of them. Thanks for pointing them out.

  3. Hi
Thanks so much for including my book on the Canadian list...btw the title is When The Saints GO Marching In (even my Mom sometimes call it When The Saints COME Marching In)
Thanks for doing this and being such a great supporter of writers.

  5. There seems to be a problem with voting - see messages I've been getting on FB:
Forris Day Jr.: I tried to vote but it wouldn't let me. I even tried commenting. I signed up to follow the blog so maybe I have to be approved. Anyhow I really loved "When the Saints Go Marching"

  8. I know I "missed" many titles, just can't put all of them in...and I certainly didn't have the time to read them all. That's why I mentioned, in the intro, to add your own choices. Thanks for taking the time to visit the House and to participate. JF

  9. re: problems voting.
You can't just click, it doesn't work. I have no way of doing this with Blogger. If there is and someone knows it, please let me know. In the intro, I mention that you can email me your votes at housecrimyst@gmail.com or simply put them in a comment here. It doesn't come up on the page right away because I filter the comments (for spam). Thank you for taking the time to vote I really appreciate!
